Sestriere gained international reputation when it hosted the 2006 Winter Olympics. The resort is part of the famous “Milky Way” ski circuit, a magnificent area with over 400kms of pistes, with excellent skiing for all grades in spectacular scenery. Sestriere is the highest and most 'snow sure' resort in the 'Milky Way area', sitting at the very heart of the region. There is plenty of skiing and snowboarding to be had in the resort and beyond, joining the pistes over at Sauze d'Oulx, Claviere and Montgenvre over the border in France. Purpose built in the 1930's the town has a modern flavour and there is plenty to do for visitors. There are is a wide variety of accommodation including many self-catering apartments. The modern resort has a modern and trendy feel to it, with the apres ski ranging from cosy wine bars to more lively bars and pubs.
